Ellen Balk
Ellen has over twenty years of experience as a school administrator, special educator, counselor and educational consultant for children, adolescents and their families. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. in Social Welfare. She received a M.A. in Special Education with a focus on behavioral disorders from American University. Ellen’s experience includes implementing and directing a program for juvenile delinquents and educating children with behavior disorders and learning differences. Ellen has successfully created and established a learning disabilities program in a private high school, and has served as principal of the same high school. Her ability to engage older students in learning and understanding their specific learning styles and needs is just of Ellen’s strengths. She is particularly skilled at developing a strong rapport with her students and is thus able to motivate them to achieve to the best of their ability. Ellen is most proud of her ability to meet the needs of students who would otherwise not be able to attend the school of their choice without her support or the services she has established in school programs.
Irina Cherney
Irina Cherney received a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education while attending Khabarovsk State University in Russia. While in University, Irina excelled at math and science, specifically calculus, algebra, number theory, analytical geometry, trigonometry, mathematical logic, general physics, theoretical physics and methods of teaching mathematics. Since graduating, Irina has studied post-graduate courses in mathematics and history of mathematics at Moscow State University, where she also taught as an assistant professor. After moving to the United States in 1996, Irina dedicated herself to work with individual students and small groups of students in order to help each child to achieve their full potential. She customizes her instruction to address specific needs of students, individualizes the process of learning using different approaches and methods. Irina has taught mathematics in Russia, Canada, Connecticut, and Georgia, and is intimately familiar with different math curriculums, including those of the best European and Asian schools. She has extensive experience teaching the mathematics curricula used by schools in the State of Georgia, and is able to adjust her help according to the specific requirements of each school. Irina adores her students and is committed to giving the best possible help to each and every student.
