“Since my son has started working with Mrs. Yael and her associate,  my life has changed for the better. My relationship with my son has improved and I’m no longer spending hours doing miserable homework and trying to be his teacher instead of his mom. It has only been a couple of months, and my son actually has some self-esteem for the first time in his life! I beg you moms out there, don’t wait another moment, contact Ms. Yael she really does make a difference to each and every one of her students. I talk with the other moms there too and I recently completed her Executive Function workshop – it was fabulous and I learned so much!”

In the words of my own son “I love the way they simplify math problems and put them into ways that I can understand. I actually look forward to going to tutoring.”

“As a school administrator and parent, I recommend Yael Swerdlow and Associates to all parents. For over two years, I have used Yael’s practice as a resource for my own children (ages 11 and 15). The needs of my children have continued to change during their time with Yael, as have the objectives of their tutoring. Yael and her associates have been flexible and supportive throughout this time, and have adapted their tutoring to meet the needs of my children. To put it mildly, Yael Swerdlow and Associates has been an asset to both my own children and to the students they have served in my school. All of the professionals who work with Yael are skilled in their area of study and are adept at responding to my children’s very different learning styles. The combination of this one-on-one attention, along with their class experience has created a dynamic learning experience that has helped my children maximize their strengths and better understand their challenges. My children recognize Yael, Ellen and Irena as their personal supporters and as a result have confidence and fluidity in the use of what they know. We are glad to have them on our team!”

Yael Swerdlow and her associate, Ellen Balk, are amazing educators, advocates, and mentors for the children they work with. They understood what I as a parent want for my daughter, and they understood my daughter inherently. This understanding led to them providing my daughter with personalized instruction geared to exactly what she needed. Her skills in reading and writing have improved markedly.
Another very strong point for this group is that they establish a fantastic rapport with the students. My daughter admires and is quite fond of Ellen and Yael. She is enthusiastic to come for the lessons and loves to work with the tutors. The homework is also just right. It gives her good practice, but it is never so overwhelming that she dreads it.
We have had a completely wonderful experience with Yael Swerdlow and Associates. Communication with Yael, whether it be about scheduling, the child, or how to handle differing philosophies in education, is exceptional. I felt able to talk to her openly about concerns, ideas, and approaches on how to best help my child. She truly understands what parents are going through, but also remains true to her expertise when helping make major decisions regarding the students’ abilities and placement. I believe she does her absolute best to meet the requests of the parents, and my husband and I have been very impressed. I respect her and am so grateful our daughter has gotten to work with this fine team. These teachers are very much the influential, formative types who can help boost a child in academics as well as in whole-child development. Our heartfelt gratitude to Yael Swerdlow and Ellen Balk.

Thank you!

I write this with huge gratitude to Yael Swerdlow; she made my dream career become a reality. From a young age, starting in 3rd grade, I had a hard time with writing and reading comprehension. I was a visual learner, but had a hard time getting things auditorily.  I was diagnosed with a learning disability at a young age, and it got in the way of my progress in English related subjects throughout school.

I started going to Yael for weekly tutoring when I was in middle school, and I went up until High school. Yael and her team, not only helped me get into a great high school, but more importantly guided me on the right track to get into the College of my dreams in NYC. Approaching sophomore year in high school I would have never imagined even applying to a school like The School of Visual Arts. Yael made it a priority to do whatever it would take to provide me with the correct writing and reading skills in order to apply to Colleges. Applying the techniques she taught me is what got me through school and made it possible for me to feel more confident in the way I was reading and writing.

Five years later, I am now a graduate from SVA on the Dean’s List – something I would have never dreamed of happening.  I cannot thank you enough Yael for treating me like one of your own children and dedicating all the time in the world to make someone else’s career path possible with no limitations. Anything is possible with Yael and her team!

“Yael Swerdlow has tutored my teenage children on and off for several years. Both of my children have visual and auditory learning disabilities combined with attention deficity disorder. Even though they both attend a private school for LD/ADHD children, they needed additional assistance with reading (comprehension, phonics and decoding), writing (expressing and sequencing concepts or ideas) and organizational skills (retrieving information, paying attention to details and studying). They also needed assistance with learning math concepts. Although neither of my children were overly excited abouth having to be tutored outside of school, they came to understand and appreciate Ms. Swerdlow’s techniques and they recognized how much she helped them with their academics. Ms. Swerdlow always told them that she had many ways to teach. If the children became frustrated because they didn’t understand one method, she was always able to switch to althernative methods until they could experience success. While Ms. Swerdlow is highly experienced and talented in her profession, her best attribute is her ability to build relationships with children. Because of this ability, she is able to communicate effectively and help them create strategies for success. Ms. Swerdlow is a role model of perseverance, dedication and patience for all parents and teachers. I highly recommend her as a tutor and as a learning strategist for children of all ages and abilities.”

“Our family’s experience with Yael Swerdlow has surpassed all other tutors we’ve used. Yael understands and serves our daughter based on the whole of her individual needs—academic and social-emotional. While Yael’s focus is academic, she uses her depth of knowledge and experience as an educator to develop strategies that work based on who our daughter is in her core. We have seen in our daughter improved independent thinking, use of effective organizational and study skills and more positive feelings about herself and school. Bottom line: Yael is an all-knowing, compassionate educator who will ‘get’ your child and build a program of learning specific to who your child is. We simply love her and the impact she and her staff has had on our family.”
